Haworthias are small, around 3 to 5 inches in height, and deservedly popular succulents from southern Africa. Haworthia is characterized by its rosette-shaped, tightly packed leafy clusters. It's perfect for beginners because it grows well indoors when taken care of properly.
The real beauty is in the succulent leaves, depending on species, can be variously colored in greens, reds, or browns. Some have leaves that are thin and bristly, others thick and fat. Some are plain, others are marked with lines, bumps, stripes, or dots. Rarely, you may get one or two small white flowers if your Haworthia window plant is really happy.
Haworthia loves the bright, indirect sun. If you have a window facing south, east, or west, that’s your winner. If you want to move your Haworthia outside during the summer, expose it to the sunlight a little more each day, so that it doesn’t become overexposed to the sun on its first day outside. Otherwise, its leaves will burn.
Haworthia needs to be watered when their soil is completely dried out and their leaves start to curl (about every two to three weeks). Never allow water to collect in the rosette.
Use a commercial well-draining succulent soil mix or a 50/50 mix of potting soil and pumice or perlite. Use a clay pot with drainage holes for better air circulation to the roots.
Keep your plant where it is 70 to 90 F. (21-32 C.) for the best growth.
If you love both succulents and pets, then Haworthia is the perfect choice for you. Haworthia is known to be pet-safe succulents, which appeal to so many people not only for their ease of maintenance but for their beauty. Please see more Toxic and Non-Toxic Succulents for Pets to ensure both coexist happily in your house.
